Summer Isn't a Break From Learning. It's an Opportunity to Get Ahead
Most students lose ground over the summer — research consistently shows that academic skills fade without practice, and the gap between where a child ends the school year and where they begin the next one is almost always wider than parents expect.
At Dreams Tutoring, summer works differently. Students who spend July and August in structured, teacher-led classes arrive in September ahead of where they left off in June — not behind
For families with younger children, our full-day program offers something even more valuable: a safe, enriching, actively supervised summer where kids are learning in the morning and engaged in Chinese lessons, drawing, arts and crafts, board games, and outdoor recess in the afternoon. It’s the kind of summer day parents struggle to piece together on their own.
For Grade 7 and 8 students with specialized school goals, summer is the most important preparation window of the year. SHSAT exam season begins in September. The students who walk into that fall term already prepared — already comfortable with the exam format, already practiced under timed conditions — have a measurable advantage over those who start from scratch.
A Summer Program Built for Every Stage
Grades 1–6 — Academic Enrichment
For families who want their child to maintain and build on their school-year learning over the summer — not lose ground. Morning sessions cover ELA and Math in structured small-group classes. The afternoon extends into a full enrichment day for families who need coverage beyond lunchtime. No tutoring center has been boring enough to make a kid ask to come back. We aim for the opposite.
Grade 5 — Mark Twain Exam Preparation
For 5th graders targeting Mark Twain Junior High School or Bay Ridge Academy admissions in the upcoming school year. The summer program covers Math & Creative Writing in morning sessions — giving students a head start on exam preparation before the academic-year class begins in September. If your child is entering Grade 5 in September and has specialized middle school goals, this is the right first step.
Grade 7 — Pre-SHSAT (PSHSAT)
For 7th graders who want to use the summer to build SHSAT foundations before the academic-year PSHSAT program begins in September. Afternoon sessions, 3 hours per day, 5 days a week. Seven weeks of structured preparation before the school year begins is the kind of early advantage that makes the Grade 8 SHSAT campaign look completely different.
Grade 8 — SHSAT Preparation
For students entering Grade 8 in September with the SHSAT in November. The summer program gives them 7 weeks of intensive Mon–Fri preparation — 3 mock exams included — before transitioning into the fall weekend SHSAT program. The Summer + Fall bundle is the most comprehensive SHSAT preparation package Dreams Tutoring offers. Students who complete it arrive at November’s exam with 6 total mock exams under their belt.
Grades 9–12 — SAT Preparation
For high school students who want to use the summer to make real progress on their SAT score before the fall testing season. Afternoon sessions, 3 hours per day, 5 days per week, 3 mock exams included. Unlimited online practice access included with enrollment.
More Than a Morning Class. A Full Summer Day.
One of Dreams Tutoring’s most distinctive summer offerings is the Full Day and Extended Day option for Grades 1–4 (and Grade 6). Here’s what a full day looks like:
12:00PM – 1:30PM- — Lunch & Outdoor Recess
Students eat lunch and have supervised outdoor time. Families bring their own lunch.
Extended Day option runs 9:00AM – 5:00PM
For families who need a longer day. Contact us for after-3:30PM supervision details.
9:00AM – 12:00PM - ELA & Math instruction
Small-group academic classes, max 10 students, licensed teacher. Same structured curriculum as our academic-year Saturday program.
1:30PM – 3:30PM - — Enrichment Activities
Chinese Lesson, Drawing, Arts & Crafts, Board Games, and Homework Help. Staffed by our teaching team and volunteer tutors.
This is a complete summer weekday — academic instruction in the morning, enrichment and activity in the afternoon. For working Brooklyn families who need reliable structure for their children over the summer, this program solves a real problem.

Summer Is the Beginning, Not the End.
For families enrolling in academic enrichment programs (Grades 1–6), the summer builds directly into the fall and spring academic-year small-group classes. Students who attend both arrive in September ahead of their classmates, not behind — and the continuity with the same teachers makes the transition seamless.
For exam prep families, the connection is even more direct:
SHSAT students
The Summer + Fall bundle is one continuous preparation arc — 7 weeks of Mon–Fri summer prep, then 8 weeks of Saturday and Sunday fall prep, with 6 mock exams total. The student who enrolls in this bundle is the most prepared SHSAT candidate in any Brooklyn classroom come November.
SAT students
Summer sessions build the same foundations covered in the academic-year small-group SAT class. Students can transition directly from summer into the fall SAT program, maintaining momentum through test season.
Mark Twain and PSHSAT students
Summer preparation feeds directly into the academic-year class for the same program starting in September. Students arrive at the first fall session already familiar with the material, the format, and the teacher.
