SHSAT Prep in Brooklyn — Built for the Exam That Changes Everything.
Our SAT program isn’t about drilling questions until something sticks. It’s about a licensed teacher sitting with each student — individually, every session — going through exactly where they’re losing points and fixing it. Small groups, real teacher attention, mock exams with score reports. That’s how students at Dreams Tutoring improve by hundreds of points.
Licensed NYC educator — 23 years teaching high school Math and ELA
Max 10 students per SAT class
Self-paced classwork — every student moves at their own speed

The SHSAT Is a Once-in-a-Career Opportunity. Preparation Is Everything.
NYC’s specialized high schools — Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Tech, Bronx Science, and others — are among the most competitive public schools in the country. Admission to all of them rests on a single score: the SHSAT, taken in Grade 8.
There’s no GPA component. No teacher recommendations. No portfolio. One exam, one score, one shot per year.
For students who have the ability to get in, the difference between an acceptance and a near-miss is almost always preparation — the structure of their practice, the quality of their mock exams, and whether they had a teacher reviewing their specific mistakes week by week.
For Grade 7 families, the opportunity is even clearer: starting through our Pre-SHSAT (PSHSAT) program is the single most reliable way to improve your child’s chances when Grade 8 exam season arrives.
Two SHSAT Programs, Two Starting Points.
Your child is in Grade 8 and the SHSAT is this November. Our fall term SHSAT program runs September through late October — 8 weeks of Saturday and Sunday small-group instruction with 4 full mock exams. Parents receive a detailed score report after every test.
Your child is in Grade 7 and you want the strongest possible foundation before Grade 8 SHSAT season. Our PSHSAT program runs the full academic year, building Verbal Reasoning and Math skills the SHSAT tests — at the pace of a student who still has time to genuinely master the material, not just cram it.
Students who complete the PSHSAT program in Grade 7 arrive in Grade 8 already familiar with the exam format, already aware of their strengths and weaknesses, and several months ahead of students who start in September of their exam year. That advantage is real and measurable.
Understanding the Exam Your Child Is Preparing For
Verbal Reasoning (ELA)
Reading comprehension, scrambled paragraphs, and logical reasoning. Students must read complex passages quickly, identify logical structure, and answer inference-based questions under strict time pressure.
Mathematics
Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, word problems, and data analysis. The SHSAT Math section requires both procedural fluency and multi-step problem-solving. Students with strong classroom math skills are frequently surprised by how different the timed exam format feels.
What makes it hard
The SHSAT is not just a knowledge test — it’s a speed-and-accuracy test. Students have 180 minutes for 114 questions. Every question has equal weight. No penalty for guessing. Knowing the content is necessary but not sufficient — students also need pacing strategy, timed practice, and familiarity with specific question formats. Our program covers all of it.
Structured, Timed, Teacher-Reviewed — Every Step.
One of Dreams Tutoring’s most distinctive summer offerings is the Full Day and Extended Day option for Grades 1–4 (and Grade 6). Here’s what a full day looks like:
Self-paced classwork
Students move at their own pace — not the class average. Faster students are challenged with additional problems. Students who need more time take it without the class moving on.
Mock exams — 4 per SHSAT term
Full-length, timed SHSAT mock exams administered at regular intervals. Every exam is scored and analyzed. Parents receive a detailed score report after each one — total score, section breakdown, and specific areas where points are being lost.
Small-group instruction (max 10 students)
Every class runs with no more than 10 students. Ms. Kuang checks each student’s work individually during classwork, identifies patterns in mistakes, and adjusts the focus of practice accordingly.
Homework book structure
Between sessions, students complete a set amount of assigned homework to maintain the same content foundation. Homework is checked. Completion matters.
Licensed, experienced teachers
Max 10 students per class
Mid-term and end-of-term report cards
Score reports after every mock exam (SHSAT / PSHSAT)
Free Saturday homework help hour (12:00–1:00PM)
All classroom materials — no extra fees
4 mock exams included in G8 SHSAT program
Parents See Every Score — After Every Mock Exam.
After every mock exam
Parents receive a detailed score report — total score, ELA breakdown, Math breakdown, and specific question types where points are being lost. Four times per term, parents have a clear quantified picture of where their child stands and what needs the most work before November.
For Grade 7 PSHSAT students
Formal report cards at mid-term and end of term, with teacher communication at pick-up in between. The PSHSAT program is about building foundations over a full year, and the reporting reflects that longer timeline.
