SAT Prep in Brooklyn That Actually Moves the Needle.

Our SAT program isn’t about drilling questions until something sticks. It’s about a licensed teacher sitting with each student — individually, every session — going through exactly where they’re losing points and fixing it. Small groups, real teacher attention, mock exams with score reports. That’s how students at Dreams Tutoring improve by hundreds of points.

The Problem With How Most Students Prepare for the SAT.

Self-study means the student practices alone, gets something wrong, and has no one to explain why. Large group prep classes move at the class average — fast students are bored, slower students fall behind, and the teacher can’t stop the whole room for one student’s confusion.

At Dreams Tutoring, our SAT class runs differently. During classwork, every student moves at their own pace. Ms. Kuang goes around the room and checks each student’s answers individually — so the student who’s fast gets challenge problems while the student who needs more time gets exactly that. Nobody moves on before they’re ready. Nobody sits waiting. At Dreams Tutoring, our SAT class runs differently. During classwork, every student moves at their own pace. That’s why students in our small-group class see real improvement — not because they did more questions, but because someone was paying attention to their specific mistakes.

Is SAT Prep at Dreams Tutoring Right for Your Student?

The student who has ability but not strategy: Smart, does well in school, but the SAT format throws them off. Runs out of time, second-guesses, knows content but can’t translate to test performance. This profile responds most dramatically to structured teacher-guided prep.

The student starting from scratch: Hasn’t taken the SAT yet (or took a PSAT in the 900s or low 1000s) and needs a clear path from foundations to test readiness. One of our students started with a PSAT in the 900s and finished with an SAT of 1,330 — after consistent work with the same teacher.

The student stuck at a score they need to improve: Has taken the SAT and needs to break a specific threshold. We look at their score report, identify exactly where points are being lost, and build a targeted plan.

What Consistent Work With the Right Teacher Looks Like.

Math — Grades 6 through 8

M.L. came to Dreams Tutoring with a PSAT score in the 900s. After one full term of small-group SAT prep, his score reached 1,135. Progress — but not where he needed to be.

Ms. Kuang recognized that M.L. needed more individual attention than even a small group could provide. He moved to one-on-one sessions for both Math and ELA. Same teacher. Same method. More focus.

His final SAT score: 1,330.

A journey of roughly 400 points from where he started — with one teacher, in one academic year, through weekly sessions.

“He didn’t just improve his score. He stopped believing the test was something that happened to him — and started treating it as something he could control.” — Parent of M.L., Brooklyn

What to Expect at Each Grade Level

Grade 6: The Transition Year

Sixth grade is the first real shift — from elementary school’s one-teacher environment to a more independent, multi-subject structure. Students who sailed through Grade 5 can find Grade 6 genuinely disorienting. Our small-group classes provide the stability and structure that makes the transition manageable. By the end of the year, stu

Grade 7: Build Early. Win Later

Grade 7 is when the academic pressure starts to resemble high school. It’s also the ideal year to begin SHSAT preparation through our PSHSAT program — structured, focused, and designed to give students a full year’s head start on one of New York City’s most competitive exams. Students who combine Grade 7 ELA & Math enrichment with the PSHSAT program arrive in Grade 8 genuinely prepared.

Grade 8: The Exam Year

For Grade 8 students, the fall term is SHSAT season. Our Grade 8 program runs September through late October — 8 weeks of intensive Saturday and Sunday preparation, 4 full mock exams, and score reports after every test. Students also continue Math and ELA enrichment to maintain grade-level proficiency and prepare for State Exams in spring.

What to Expect at Each Grade Level

Step 1: Understand the starting point

First session establishes where your child is — PSAT/SAT score if available, which sections lose the most points, and what's causing the losses (content gaps, timing, test-taking habits).

Step 2: Cover content at each student's pace

Every session includes structured classwork. Students move through SAT Math and ELA content at their own speed. Ms. Kuang checks each student's answers individually and works through questions one-on-one.

Step 3: Homework keeps foundations solid

Between sessions, students complete assigned homework from a dedicated book. A specific set of problems assigned so everyone maintains the same content foundation. Both homework and classwork books are checked.

Step 4: Mock exams measure real progress

Mock exams included every term. After each exam, parents receive a detailed score report — section breakdowns, total score, areas to focus on. Not a guess at progress. Actual data.

Step 5: Adjust and keep moving

Score reports showing persistent weakness lead to adjustments — more time on a concept, a shift to one-on-one if needed, targeted practice on specific question types. Goal: student walks into test day with clear strategy and genuine confidence.
