Elementary School Tutoring in Brooklyn: Build the Foundation Right.
The skills your child builds in Grades 1 through 5 are the ones they’ll rely on for every year that follows. At Dreams Tutoring, our licensed teachers work with elementary students in small groups of no more than 10, making sure every child is seen — not just the loudest voice in the room.

What Your Child Learns Before Grade 6 Shapes Everything After It.
The elementary years aren’t just about worksheets and report cards. They’re about building the reading fluency, number sense, and study confidence that will carry your child through middle school, high school, and beyond.
Here's what happens when gaps go unaddressed:
A child who struggles with reading comprehension in Grade 3 doesn’t just fall behind in ELA — they fall behind in science, social studies, and every subject that requires understanding written instructions. A child who doesn’t fully grasp place value in Grade 2 will struggle with fractions in Grade 4, and with algebra in Grade 7. These gaps compound. They don’t disappear on their own.
We don’t just prepare children for this year’s tests. We make sure they arrive in middle school ready.
The good news:
elementary students are incredibly receptive to the right support. With patient, experienced teaching in a small group environment, gaps close faster than most parents expect — and confidence comes back with them.
Three Types of Families We Work With
The "Catch Up" Family
Your child is below grade level and you want to close the gap before it grows. Maybe the teacher flagged a concern, maybe homework time is becoming a nightly battle, or maybe your child has started saying “I’m bad at reading” or “I hate math.” That’s the moment to act. We find exactly where the gap started, fix the foundation, and bring the confidence back.
The "Keep Up" Family
Your child is doing okay — B’s and C’s, getting through homework — but you can see they’re working harder than they should be for those results. Something isn’t quite clicking. We identify what it is, strengthen it, and make the rest of school feel easier.
The "Get Ahead" Family
Your child is doing well and you want to make sure they’re genuinely challenged, not just bored. We provide enrichment, introduce above-grade-level content, and — for Grade 5 students — dedicated preparation for the Mark Twain exam and Bay Ridge Academy admissions, two of Brooklyn’s most competitive specialized middle school pathways.

What to Expect at Each Stage
Grades 1–2: Getting the Foundations Right
This is the most important window in a child’s academic life. Reading fluency, number sense, and confidence — built here, built right. Our teachers move at each child’s pace, celebrate every small win, and make learning feel safe. If your child is in Grade 1 or 2 and struggling, the time to address it is now — not in Grade 4 when everything has compounded.
Grades 3–4: Building and Reinforcing
The shift from “learning to read” to “reading to learn” happens here. Math gets abstract. Writing assignments get longer. Our small-group classes give students the individual attention they need to genuinely understand each concept — not just get through the homework.
Grade 5: Preparing for What Comes Next
Fifth grade is a transition year. Middle school is coming, and for Brooklyn families with specialized school goals, the Mark Twain exam and Bay Ridge Academy admissions are right around the corner. Our Grade 5 program covers full academic ELA and Math enrichment alongside dedicated Mark Twain preparation — Science, Math & Computer, and ELA Creative Writing.
